Website Fixes for Manufacturers & Small Businesses

Why Your Manufacturing Website Isn’t Generating Enquiries (And How to Fix It)

Your Website Looks Great. So Why Isn’t the Phone Ringing?

I hear this constantly from manufacturers and small business owners across Australia: ‘We spent good money on our website. It looks professional. But we’re not getting enquiries from it.’

It’s one of the most frustrating positions to be in — you’ve invested in a digital presence, but it’s not working. And in 2026, with competition increasing and buyers doing more research online than ever before, a website that doesn’t convert is costing you real money.

The good news: in most cases, the fix doesn’t require a full rebuild. It requires addressing five specific problems that affect the vast majority of manufacturer and small business websites.

B2B and Manufacturing marketing

Fix 1: Your Call to Action Is Either Missing or Buried

Go to your website homepage right now. Within five seconds, can a visitor clearly see what they should do next?

Most manufacturing websites bury the contact information in a footer or rely on a generic ‘Contact Us’ link in the navigation. That’s not good enough.

Every page of your website needs a prominent, specific call to action. Not just ‘Contact Us’ — something that tells the visitor exactly what they’ll get:

  • Get a Free Quote
  • Book a 15-Minute Discovery Call
  • Download Our Capability Statement
  • Request a Site Visit

Make these buttons big, orange (or your brand colour), and visible without scrolling. Then put them on every page — not just the homepage.

Fix 2: You’re Talking About Yourself, Not Your Buyer

Read your homepage copy. Does it start with something like ‘We are a leading manufacturer of…’ or ‘Established in [year], we specialise in…’?

That’s talking about yourself. Your buyer doesn’t care about that yet. They care about whether you can solve their problem.

Rewrite your homepage to lead with the customer’s pain point, then position your business as the solution:

Instead of: ‘We manufacture precision sheet metal components in Melbourne.’

Try: ‘Procurement managers across Australia trust us to deliver precision sheet metal components on time, every time — with zero quality surprises.’

See the difference? One is about you. The other is about the outcome your buyer wants.

Fix 3: You Have No Social Proof

Buyers in 2026 are risk-averse. Before they pick up the phone, they want evidence that other businesses like theirs have trusted you and gotten results.

Your website needs:

  • Client testimonials — specific, results-focused, attributed to real people with their role and company
  • Client logos — even a row of recognisable company logos builds immediate credibility
  • Case studies — short stories that describe a problem, your solution, and the outcome

If you don’t have any of these, your first action this week should be to email three existing clients and ask for a short testimonial. Most will be happy to provide one.

Fix 4: Your Website Is Slow and Doesn’t Work on Mobile

Over 60% of B2B buyers now research suppliers on their phones. If your website takes more than three seconds to load or looks broken on a mobile device, you’re losing enquiries before they even read a word.

Test your site right now using Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool (search for it). If your mobile score is below 70, this is a priority fix.

Common culprits: oversized images, outdated plugins, cheap shared hosting. All is fixable without a full redesign.

Fix 5: You’re Not Answering the Questions Buyers Are Searching For

In 2026, Google’s AI Overviews and tools like ChatGPT answer buyer questions directly — pulling from websites that provide clear, helpful answers. If your website only describes what you do but doesn’t answer the questions your buyers are actually typing into Google, you’re invisible.

Think about what your ideal customer types when they have a problem. For a sheet metal manufacturer, that might be:

  • ‘How much does custom sheet metal fabrication cost in Australia?’
  • ‘How long does custom metal fabrication take?’
  • ‘What’s the minimum order quantity for precision components?’

Create content — articles, FAQs, service pages — that answer these questions directly. This is the foundation of both SEO and AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and is the single most underused strategy for manufacturing websites.

The Bottom Line

Your website should be your hardest-working salesperson — available 24/7, answering buyer questions, building credibility, and directing people toward contacting you. If it’s not doing that, the five fixes above will make an immediate difference.
